Restore roads dug up for laying pipes: BBMP chief

BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta on Wednesday directed the BBMP engineers to restore all the roads that were dug up for laying water or UGD pipes at 110 villages and municipal areas that were added to the civic body, when it was upgraded as Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike from Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike more than a decade ago.

Addressing a virtual meeting on road maintenance, the Chief Commissioner instructed the BBMP engineers that the roads that were dug up should be restored without any delay.

Any issues related to BWSSB should be escalated to Chief Engineer’s level, and it should be brought into the notice of higher level if not solved. The restoration of damaged roads should be done systematically and speedily before the monsoon begins. Works should be finished without disturbing the public, the Chief Commissioner said.

Gupta strictly instructed the officials that the complete work of the restoration of road cut portions (of 110 villages in BBMP limits) should be finished within two months.

He also said that the daily work details related to restoration of roads dug up and asphalting should be submitted to BBMP head office. Officials should ensure ease of vehicular movement by completing the works speedily, he added.

Road maintenance related to the road infrastructure department should be done properly. Executive Engineers should carry out inspections and ensure that the roads are in good condition, the Chief Commissioner instructed the officials.

Regarding the infrastructure department, among the 139 roads with a total length of 183.38 km, 72 roads with a length of 84.14 km have been asphalted.

Asphalt works on 67 roads with a length of 99.24 km is in progress. The work should be finished soon, he instructed the officials.

As for storm water drains, 113 km Rajakaluve is being constructed within BBMP limits under the Chief Minister’s Nava Nagarothana scheme.

While 96 km of work has been completed, the pending 17 km should be over by March-end, the Chief Commissioner instructed the officials.

Special Commissioner Manoj Jain, Chief Engineer (Road infrastructure) Prahlad and other officials were present in the meeting.
