BMTC slaps notice on driver for slow speed!

There have been a number of instances of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) serving notices to drivers for rash driving, but recently the transport corporation issued a notice to a driver for driving slowly.

A notice was issued to the driver of bus no. KA57 AF4973 (SBS1K/12), after one of the passengers complained to the authorities that the driver was “driving at the speed of a bullock-cart”, while the passengers were feeling tense about not being able to reach their offices on time.

The corporation has given the erring driver seven days to respond to the notice, failing to which action will be taken.

While BMTC’s response to such incidents have impressed the passengers, the drivers are however unhappy and argue that the burgeoning traffic has made it increasingly difficult to navigate Bengaluru’s roads.

“Tracking driving skills is not a realistic approach. There is heavy congestion on roads. Drivers have no option but to apply brakes often. On some roads, buses run at a speed of 10 to 20 kmph due to traffic congestion especially during the peak hours. One has to realise how hard it is to drive,” said one of the drivers.

Meanwhile the BMTC has directed all its drivers to follow the protocols and strictly comply with the laws and guidelines.
