Mekedatu padayatra storms city, traffic goes haywire

NT Correspondent

The padayatra taken out by the Congress party demanding the construction of a balancing reservoir at Mekedatu in Kanakapura taluk, travelled through the streets of Bengaluru on Tuesday disrupting traffic at many places even as KPCC President D.K.Shivakumar offered an apology to citizens of Bengaluru for the mayhem.

“People have to bear with it for the next two days as the reservoir project when implemented, will solve the drinking water woes of lakhs of people in the city for the next 50 years,” the Congress leader said.

He took objection to the removal of flex boards and banners put up by Congress workers for the padayatra and wondered why BBMP officials were not doing the same to flex boards put up by BJP men to greet former CM Yediyurappa and CM Bommai. The padayatra will culminate in a huge convention on March 3 at National College grounds in Bengaluru.
