Padayatra takes over city streets, traffic hit

NT Correspondent

The padayatra 2.0 by the Congress Party urging the state government to construct a balancing reservoir at Mekedatu in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagar district wound its way through the city for the second day on Wednesday with enthused Congress workers doing their best to make it a mega event though the yatra did lead to traffic snarls at many places and slowed down vehicular movement.

On Wednesday morning, the padayatra started from a kalyan mantap in BTM Layout and passed through main roads in various Assembly constituencies including Malleswaram. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar led the padayatra with their slogan shouting supporters accompanying them on the procession route. Efforts made by traffic cops to streamline vehicular movement fell flat and there was bumper to bumper traffic at many places.

On Thursday, the padayatris will begin their march from Bengaluru Palace grounds and reach National College Grounds in Basavanagudi where the valedicory function has been arranged. Thousands of workers from all over the state will be arriving in Bengaluru to take part in the padayatra.
