Fearing college action, teen ends life

A 19-year-old first year degree student of a reputed private college in Koramangala has committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a ladies paying guest (PG) accommodation in J.B. Nagar police station limits. The victim left her house for her college instead she went on top of the PG at Amarajyothi Layout and committed suicide.

Police suspect that the incident could be in connection with her getting caught for alleged malpractice during her exams.

The police have identified the victim as Bhavya, a resident of Murugeshpalya. She hails from Mulbagal.

She was studying first year BCom in the said private college. On Friday, she left home saying that she was going to college. Instead she went to a ladies PG and jumped from the fifth floor.

“A few minutes before committing suicide, she is alleged to have called her sister and informed her of her intention. The sister then informed her parents. But when her father repeatedly tried to call the victim, the calls went unanswered. The victim is said to have told her sister that she was facing disciplinary action after being caught copying in the exams,” said a police officer. The victim’s parents have reportedly told the police that she was upset over the action taken by the college. The police are in the process of speaking to the college authorities.
