Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri has called on advocates to shed the attitude of stoical indifference to the decline of values in society.
In his speech at the valedictory function organised by the Advocates Association, Mr Kageri said the possibility of the system collapsing on account of decline in values is real and it is high time advocates played a proactive role to halt this dangerous trend. The Speaker reiterated that there was no point in blaming only politicians for the degradation of values as this trend has pervaded all walks of life. “The collective voice of advocates is strong and powerful and can create a positive impact on society’’ he said.
Asserting that more and more advocates should join the political field to ensure the system functions in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, Kageri said advocates are better equipped to create powerful public opinion on various national issues.
‘’I have been championing the cause of ‘One Nation One Election’ and the need for electoral reforms. I appeal to the judiciary to build powerful opinion on these two vital subjects’’, the Speaker added.
