The Union government has been requested to approve the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project soon, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.
Speaking to media persons at the Hubballi airport, Bommai said the Union Water Resources minister has been apprised of the significance of the Mekedatu project. An all-party meeting would be convened to discuss the issue during the ongoing Budget session of the state legislature. “Later we will leave for Delhi to discuss Mekedatu and major irrigation projects including Krishna,” Bommai said.
The Mekedatu project has become a bone of contention between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress which took out a massive padayatra recently, led by leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar to press for implementation of the project.
