Sumy nightmare finally over as students evacuated to safety
New Delhi: On a day when a localised ceasefire announced by the Russians collapsed and fierce fighting resumed in war-torn Ukraine posing a hurdle to the safe passage of thousands of civilians trapped in the ongoing conflict, Indian officials heaved a huge sigh of relief with all its students trapped in Ukraine’s Sumy moving out of the city through a Humanitarian Corridor on Tuesday.
External affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the students were being taken to Poltava.
Naveen’s body can’t be brought back now: Bommai
The mortal remains of medical student Naveen Shekarappa Gyangoudar, who died in shelling by Russian troops, are safely kept in a morgue in Ukraine and would be brought back to India once the situation improves, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. Heavy shelling was going on in Ukraine because of which it was not possible to bring back Naveen’s body to his hometown, Haveri till now. The body had been embalmed and kept in the morgue in an Ukraine hospital.
