Bengaluru: Sakra World Hospital, a premier healthcare organisation that uses Japanese cutting-edge technology to deliver breakthrough healthcare in India, commemorated International Women’s Day on Tuesday by conducting a 3-km walkathon starting from the hospital premises and covering Kadubesanahalli and nearby areas, to promote messages of #BreakTheBias and Gender Equality for a sustainable tomorrow.

The walkathon was flagged off by Roopa Divakar Moudgil, Inspector General of Police and the Head of Karnataka Handloom (Cauvery Emporium) and had more than 150 participants from the hospital. Past few decades have witnessed enormous growth in every facet of life, including great advancements in various sectors with implications on technology as well as lifestyle. Several women have come to the forefront and attained positions of leadership all across the world.

However, even today, women are underrepresented in many key positions and strategic roles in comparison to what they deserve. Gender equality is not just the fundamental right for every woman; it is also the only road to attain a sustainable future. Sharing her thoughts on disparities and discrimination in healthcare, Dr Shantala Thuppanna, HOD & Senior Consultant, Gynecological Laparoscopic Surgeon, said, “Deliberate bias creates a hindrance for women to move forward and take action.”
