1,791 covid cases, 111 deaths in Kerala

Trivandrum: Kerala on Tuesday recorded 1,791 fresh COVID infections and reported 111 deaths, according to an official press release. Total fatalities rose to 66,374 and the total caseload increased to 65,15,103 in the south Indian state, it added.

Of the deaths, four were reported in the last 24 hours. Seven of them died in the last few days but were not recorded due to late receipt of documents and 100 were designated as COVID deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, the release said.

With 1,871 more people recovering from the virus since Monday, the total recoveries reached 64,35,236 and the active cases dropped to 12,677, the release said. As many as 32,135 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Among the 14 districts, Ernakulam recorded the highest with 318 cases followed by Thiruvananthapuram (205) and Kottayam (190), the release said. There are now 64,077 people under surveillance in various districts, of whom 62,912 are in home or institutional quarantine and 1,165 in hospitals, it said.

Mumbai on Tuesday recorded 60 fresh COVID cases, a day after adding 38 infections, taking the tally to 10,57,016, a civic official said. Death toll due to the pandemic remained unchanged at 16,692 with no fresh fatality reported during the day, the official added. Daily COVID cases had remained below 50 on Monday (38) and Sunday (46), when the daily addition to the tally in the metropolis had gone below 50 for the first time after April 2020. A total of 10,36,974 people (98 per cent of the COVID-19 caseload) have been discharged post-recovery in the city, including 77 on Tuesday, leaving the metropolis with 467 active cases, the official said.

Meanwhile, the infection count in Nashik reached 4,75,908 with 23 fresh cases.
