Hundreds of passengers were stranded and more than 20 trains failed to leave for their destinations on time at Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna(KSR) Railway Station on Wednesday following a power failure which lasted several hours.
According to South Western Railway (SWR) officials, the disruption started at around 5:30 am after they received information that a bird had got entangled in one of the cable assemblies which resulted in a technical fault pertaining to an electric switch. Apart from BengaluruChennai Shatabdi Express (12028), Lalbagh Express (12608) and Kacheguda to Mysuru (12785), many other trains including Rajdhani Express also got delayed. Sources said the trains were delayed for about four hours.
Chief PRO and spokesperson of SWR, Aneesh Hegde said, “The cause of disruption was the failure of electricity supply. A bird got entangled in the cables affecting power supply on KSR BengaluruYelahanka line,” he told News Trail. He said officials managed to restore supply by 8am. “Train services on Bengaluru-Mysuru and Bengaluru-Jolarpettai routes were also restored soon after that,” he added.
Meanwhile social media sites were flooded with messages related to the delay in arrival and departure of at least 21 trains. Office-goers in the city were also inconvenienced as they got late to work. Unaware of the situation and the delay in train services, commuters started venting their frustration on social media.
“Mysuru Super Express 12785 was more than three hours late before reaching Yelahanka station. Is it a railgadi or bailgadi?” one of the commuters said in a post.
