Industrial townships in tier-II cities: Nirani

NT Correspondent

The state government has taken steps to establish five industrial townships in tier-II cities, said Medium & Large Scale Industries Minister Murgesh Nirani.

Replying to C.N. Nanjegowda (JDS) in the Legislative Council here on Wednesday, Nirani said priority would be given to a ‘walk to work’ system by establishing residential layouts near industrial townships. The government wishes to have industries in tier-II cities and investors would be informed about it. The facilities being given to investors to set up industries in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural have been reduced. Plans are afoot to give more concessions to those who wish to set up industrial units in other cities like Tumakuru, Kalaburagi and Belagavi, he said.

The minister said investors are being coaxed to select tier-II cities and once they agree, more concessions are being given. Industries must reserve 75 per cent of jobs for Kannadigas and non-compliance with this rule would lead to stern action, he said

When Nanjegowda brought to the notice of minister that a hotel has been constructed on land reserved for industry at one place, Nirani said it was not wrong as hotels are also considered as industry.
