A famiy in Arasikere taluk of Hasan district has done what many may consider impossiblethey have shifted their entire house, built at a cost of Rs 50 lakh to a site 30 feet away after the National Highways Authority of India(NHAI) officials informed them that the house would have to be demolished to construct a bypass road!

The house was located in Kellangere village in Arasikere and the family had built it on a 40 ft x 30 ft site. After NHAI officials served a notice on the house owner to take compensation and vacate the house, they assumed that everything was over but then came the news that there was a technology available to shift a house like a block and place it wherever they wanted it. A similar thing had been done in Mandya where an entire house was lifted and shifted somewhere else.

Though the house owner took the compensation, he did not allow the house to be pulled down. He instead sought time to shift the house elsewhere. Workers from Sri Ram Building Lifting Company, Kurukshetra district in Haryana came to the village and discussed the shifting of the house. The company demanded Rs 12 lakh which included Rs 8 lakh to shift the house and Rs 4 lakh to shift the basement without causing any damage to the structure.

The company used jacks around the house to lift and shift it. Having spent Rs 50 lakh on the house, the family did not mind spending Rs 12 lakh to retain it. It took a month for the company to shift the house away from the bypass road. It has become a tourist spot for villagers who are eager to see how the house was shfted.
