HDK’s lunch with Yediyurappa, Bommai raises eyebrows

Was it a sign of the shape Karnataka politics will take in the run-up to the Assembly polls in 2023? Giving credence to reports that the Janata Dal (Secular) was cosying up to the ruling BJP, senior JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy had lunch sitting between Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and former CM B.S.Yediyurappa at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

The luncheon has led to a buzz in the corridors of power and made several politicians raise their eyebrows.

The three leaders are learnt to have deliberated on many important political developments taking place in the state.

Already, the Opposition Congress has been openly saying that the JD(S) is the ‘B’ team of the BJP in the House. On Thursday, Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah had taken a jibe at Kumaraswamy saying ‘his’ party is in power which the JD(S) leader surprisingly did not deny. The speech of Kumaraswamy focussed mainly on the follies of the previous Congress government led by CM Siddaramaiah and the hurry of the Congress to come to power while he spared the BJP.

Of late, Kumaraswamy has been soft in his criticism of the ruling BJP dropping hints of a possible tieup with the saffron party in the coming polls to keep the Congress out of power.
