Man charred to death in car

Bengaluru: A private firm employee was charred to death as the car he was driving caught fire near the Nice Road in Bengaluru on Saturday night.

The incident took place around 10.30 pm, when Darshan, 40, an employee of a city-based private firm, was returning to Bengaluru after attending a family function at his hometown in Tumakuru, Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Division) Sanjeev M. Patil said.

Sources from NICE said that the officials at NICE toll gate near Channasandra noticed a car burning and alerted the emergency fire tenders. The patrolling police officials rushed to the spot and helped in extinguishing the fire.

But by then Darshan had sustained severe burn injury, sources said. Preliminary investigations revealed that a short circuit in the engine might have caused the fire. Later considering all possible angles, police suspected Darshan himself might have committed suicide or someone might have tried to kill him.

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) conducted several tests and the body was shifted to the Rajarajeshwari Hospital in Kengeri. A case has been registered in this regard at Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station.
