Late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar was well known for his philanthropy. Now his fans are trying to emulate him by organising fund-raisers.

Around 100 cyclists peddled 47 km in Bengaluru to pay floral tributes on the occasion of Appu’s 47th birthday. Members of Bangalore Randonneurs, High on Wheels, Velokofi and Go Green peddled up to Appu’s Samadhi at Kanteerava Studio on Sunday.

“I am very happy to participate in this event. I happened to participate in a few fund raising events aimed at providing financial assistance to the patients from economically weaker families,” said Vijayakumar B.K., a member of High on Wheels.

The cycle ride began at 6.15 am from Wheelsports at Chamarajpet and passed through Lalbagh, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Halasur, Yeshwanthpur and reached Dr Rajkumar Samadhi at 7.45 am. After spending some time, the cyclists reached the Wheelsport through Magadi Road. To raise funds, all the cyclists bought one jersey T-shirt each.

“Puneeth Rajkumar was known for sponsoring education for 1,800 students. We know that we cannot raise funds to sponsor education for such a large number of students but we want to sponsor education at least for four or five children in future. We are aiming to raise more than Rs 1 lakh for this purpose by selling jersey T-shirts with Puneeth’s photo,” said Shivaram Venkatesh of Wheelsports.

Venkatesh has recalled the opportunity to meet Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar. He said that Puneeth Rajkumar came to know about bicycles available at Wheelsports through the members of cyclist groups.

“Puneeth Sir wanted to visit Wheelsports to buy a few bicycles, but I took some bicycles to his residence. He was so humble and simple. Generally, it would be too much to expect celebrities to pay money without any delay, but Puneeth sir paid money immediately. He bought three bicycles of Merida brand – two bicycles for Rs 40,000 each and one bicycle for Rs 2.50 lakh,” said Venkatesh.
