Fans are welcome inside stadiums
The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, which is set to begin in Mumbai on Saturday, will witness 25 per cent crowd attendance in stadiums, the organisers said on Wednesday.

Rohit says no ‘added advantage’ of playing in Mumbai
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said they will have no “added advantage” of playing their IPL matches in the city’s three grounds as many in the “relatively new team” have not played a single game in last two years. “I hope you saw the auction, relatively new team, lot of new guys have come into the team, so I don’t believe in added advantage because these guys, like lot of the guys 70 (or) 80 percent of the squad has not played in Bombay before,” Rohit said.
Suryakumar to join after getting clearance
“Surya is at NCA at the moment, he is recovering well, he will be here soon and I can’t give you his availability now, whether he will be available for fi rst game or not, but we are trying to get him as soon as possible, once we have the clearance from the NCA,” said Rohit.
Chennai unveils new jersey
Four-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday unveiled its new jersey for the Indian Premier League. CSK captain M. S. Dhoni, in a video, unboxed the new-look jersey featuring camoufl age design on the shoulders and four stars atop the franchise’s logo. Last year, CSK added the camoufl age on the jersey as a tribute to the Indian armed forces. The four stars highlight the four titles they have won so far in the IPL - in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. The trademark roaring lion logo has been placed at the left corner of the shirt.
CSK to miss Moeen for opener due to visa issues
Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will miss the services of Moeen Ali for their IPL-opener as the star England all-rounder is yet to receive his India visa for competing in the lucrative T20 tournament, beginning in Mumbai on Saturday. “It is disappointing that he has not bee able to join us. They follow set procedures for players with Pakistan descent. That looks like the reason (for delay),” said CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan.
Dewald Brevis: Nicknamed as “Baby ABD” for his strokemaking skills, South Africa’s Dewald Brewis is a right-handed batter and a handy leg-break bowler. Known for playing wide range of shots, he was picked up by fi vetime IPL champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL auctions earlier this year.
Rajvardhan Hangargekar: A lanky all-rounder, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who hails from Maharashtra’s Osmanabad district, was grabbed by defending champions Chennai Super Kings. Hangargekar, who is a medium pacer and a right-handed batter, had impressed one and all with his six-hitting prowess in India’s victorious U-19 World Cup campaign in the West Indies earlier this year.
Yash Dhull: The 19-year-old Yash Dhull, who led India to fi fth U-19 World Cup title, is a fl amboyant right-handed batter and an off-break bowler. Picked up by Delhi Capitals, Dhull has also scored two hundreds on his Ranji Trophy debut, a feat which only two other cricketers have been able to achieve.
Abhinav Manohar: Karnataka’s Abhinav Manohar, 27, is a hard-hitting middle-order batter and also bowls leg-spin. He is known for his power game and can be used as a pinch hitter. The batter was picked up by Gujarat Titans for Rs 2.60 crore and has played crucial knocks for his home team.
Rovman Powell: Jamaican Rovman Powell is a hard-hitting batter, whose base price was Rs 75 lakh, was eventually sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.80 cr. Known to smash the balls for fun, Powell can play the fi nisher’s role for his franchise. His medium pace also makes him a valuable asset in the shortest format of the game.
