A 35-year-old woman was found dead at her apartment in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Police identified the deceased as Shruti Narayan, who was working as a page editor at Reuters Bengaluru bureau.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Shruti had married Aneesh in 2017 and both had been staying at an apartment in Nallurhalli, Whitefield.

Sources said that when Shruti was found dead at her apartment, her husband had been to Taliparamba of Kannur district in Kerala. The post-mortem examination also reportedly confirmed that she had died due to hanging.

nitially it was suspected to be a suicide case, as the woman hanged herself when her husband was away from home.

Later it came to light that in January, Aneesh had attempted to murder Shruti but failed when her loud screams alerted security guards of the apartment, who intervened and saved her life.

Shruthi’s brother, Nishanth, an engineer, alleged that Aneesh often tortured her. He said that Aneesh was upset that Shruthi would send a portion of her salary to her parents every month. “Aneesh used to verbally abuse her in an intoxicated state,” he told the police.

Relatives who arrived at the scene also alleged foul play over Shruthi’s death. They filed a complaint with the Whitefield police asking the mystery to be cleared.

On March 20, Shruthi’s mother called her but got no reply. After two days, Nishant contacted the security of her apartment on the phone to check into her room. The room was locked from the inside. When they broke open the door from the balcony and entered, Shruti was found hanging from the ceiling.
Shruti was the daughter of former teacher and environmental activist Narayanan Periya and former teacher Satyabhama, who lived on Chala Vidyanagar Road in Kasaragod district in Kerala. Reuters shared the news of Shruti’s death via an internal mail on Tuesday.
