Underdog Yazhini claims precious win; enters semis

Bengaluru: Yazhini R of Tamil Nadu upset fourth seed Siri Patil 6-2, 6,-2 in the quarter-finals and entered the Girls’ singles semifinals of the Sportle Topspin AITA under -18 tennis tournament here on Wednesday.

The other quarterfinals in both the Girls and the Boys category went according to the script with the fancied players advancing to the semifinals without much ado except Hridayeshi P, who had shown the top seed Charmi Gopinath the door yesterday, today sent home eighth seed Nidi Buvila with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Boys singles: Amarnath bt Ved Subodh 6-2, 6-2; Mandeep Reddy bt Kandhavel M 6-3, 7-6 (3); Suchir Chethan bt Sushank BS 6-3, 7-6 (5); Akarsh G bt Priyansh Solkani 7-5, 6-4.

Girls singles: Yazhini R bt Siri Patil 6-3, 6-1; Hridayeshi P bt Nidi Buvila 6-3, 6-4; 3-Sreenidhi Balaji bt Presha S 6-3, 6-3; Gagana Mohan Kumar bt Karthika N 6-1, 6-0.
