Minister for Cooperation ST Somasekhar said on Sunday that job fairs would be a great help to bring down the unemployment rate in Bengaluru.

Speaking after inaugurating a job fair organised by Bengaluru Urban District Administration in association with Sri Raja Rajeshwari Technological University here, the minister said that job fairs would facilitate many companies to come under one roof to find suitable candidates.

“Job fairs will avoid unemployed youth visiting various companies for jobs. This job fair is a great help for the unemployed youth,” the minister said.

He has appreciated Bengaluru Urban District Deputy Commissioner for taking an initiative to find a suitable place for establishing an ITI College in Bengaluru South Assembly constituency. “It indicates Deputy Commissioner’s commitment to help unemployed youth to avail job-oriented training facilities,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Bengaluru Urban District Deputy Commissioner J Manjunath described youth as the power of the country. “It is our responsibility to provide better education and employment opportunities. More than 70 companies have participated in the job fair and 2450 unemployed youth have registered their names,” he said. Among the 1,465 prospective applicants, 109 got the job and 338 applicants were selected for the second round of interview, said Bengaluru Zilla Panchayat Planning Director N.R. Umesh.
