Five accused have been arrested for allegedly smuggling ganja from Chamarajnagar and selling it to the clients in Bengaluru city. According to the police, ganja worth Rs 40 lakh has been recovered from the accused.
In order to keep a tab on illegal activities and drug smuggling, a special probe had been launched by Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East, Srinath Mahadev Joshi recently.
On March 16, based on credible information, police officials conducted a raid at a designated place near Koramangala 1st Block. Five accused were arrested along with 102.2 kg ganja from the place, police said.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the accused were from Hanur taluk of Chamarajnagar district.
“The accused had procured the ganja at a lower price from their native place and had planned to sell it to their clients in Bengaluru for a much higher price,” police said. The official said that it was revealed that the accused had planned to deliver ganja to areas including HSR Layout, KR Puram, Begur and Konanakunte in the city.
The police further said the accused were habitual offenders with several cases including attempt-to-murder, drug peddling, chain snatching, already registered against them in Adugodi, Koramangala, Madiwala, JP Nagar and Kollegal police stations. Further investigation is underway.
