And they all came tumbling down...

BBMP razes building that was tilting in Kamala Nagar. They were then forced to bring down the adjacent building too as it developed cracks when the first building was being demolished

Civic authorities demolished a four-storey building in Kamala Nagar on Wednesday, after residents came rushing out, following what they thought were earthquake tremors. They emerged outside to find the building had tilted.

The building was among 26 slotted for immediate demolition by the BBMP and as officials carried out the job, the adjacent two-storey structure also developed cracks in the wall.

They did try to save the second building but when that looked unlikely to happen, officials evacuated the six people living there and brought it down as well. Arrangements for accommodation and food have been made for evacuated families, the BBMP said. There were no deaths or injuries but the families did lose valuables and other possessions.

The owner of the original four-storey structure said that the foundation had become weak after the second building was constructed nearby. She has been taken in for interrogation by police.
