One dead, 39 hurt in house collapse

A woman died and at least 39 people were injured after the first floor of a house collapsed at Huligerepura village in Maddur taluk of Mandya district on Monday night.

The people had gathered at the spot to watch ‘Kendothsava’ ritual. The injured had suffered injuries including fractures in hands and legs and are being treated at government hospital in Maddur.

Mandya district minister Gopalaiah visited the family of the deceased and handed a compensation of Rs 1 lakh from his personal account.

He promised to get Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family after having discussion with the Chief Minister and revenue minister. DC S. Ashwathi, ZP CEO G R J Divya Prabhu and others accompanied the minister.
