With HM Amit Shah in city, traffic cops on their toes
NT Correspondent
The police had a tough time managing the traffic on Friday in order to facilitate the movement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived late on Thursday night.
Even as the traffic police officials were present at major junctions to ensure smooth vehicle flow, several ambulances were found stuck in the traffic hold up that stretched several kilometres in certain roads, as Amit Shah and several other dignitaries participated in a program organized by the Cooperation Department at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru.
The City Police Commissioner, Kamal Pant, had temporarily banned traffic on some roads in Malleswaram on Friday.
Parking was also banned in several places, including Ramana Maharshi Road, Sir CV Raman Road, Bellary Road, Hebbal Bridge, Mekhri Circle, Jayamahal Road, Tallabalu Road, MV Jayaraman Road, Palace Road, Palace Cross Road, Water Tank Junction from PRTC Junction Road, Race Course Road and Temple Street Road.
In the evening, there was a heavy rush of holidayers heading out of the city to celebrate Ugadi. The city’s transport hubs such as Majestic and Shantinagar bus stands were choked and congested. Keeping this in mind, the city police have provided alternate routes for the commuters moving out of the city on Saturday.
