Bengaluru: The incessant rains have affected the residential quarters of some 20 policemen and their families on the Ramakrishna Mutt Road at Halasuru in East Bengaluru, with a number of policemen evacuating these quarters after walls become wet and water seeps into the residences.

“We worry about the safety of our families whenever there is a heavy rainfall,” a policemen told NT about the 30 year old buildings, which are in precarious condition with the residents fearing a collapse any time soon.

“I have no other option than residing here since Halasuru Police Station, where I work, is situated a stone’s throw away. I am worried about the safety of my wife and children. We now stay up at night whenever it starts to rain,” said a police constable pleading anonymity. Some policemen have already vacated the quarters. A police constable’s wife said, “One of the walls of the bedroom becomes wet during the monsoon. We have already complained to higher authorities last year itself, but nothing has been done till date.’’

Bengaluru East Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Sharanappa has promised however that measures will be taken to maintain these quarters. “The problems will be fixed within a few days,” he told NT
