‘HC judge must oversee road rage murder case’
NT Correspondent
Congress on Saturday demanded that a High Court sitting judge oversee the Chandru road rage murder case.
The grand old party claimed that the ruling BJP had been attempting to compromise the impartiality of the case. They cited the fact that BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar claimed that Chandru’s brother was a BJP ward worker.
Kar nataka Minister for Home Affairs Araga Jnanendra and BJP General Secretary CT Ravi had claimed that the killing of the youth Chandru in an instance of road rage had in fact been due to his religion, caste and the fact that he “could not speak Urdu.” Since then, Jnanendra has walked back his comments.
Congress leader and former MP VS Ugrappa said: “A High Court sitting judge should oversee this case.” He added that the impartiality of the probe was now under question.
Meanwhile, BJP MLC N Ravikumar has kicked up a row saying that Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant gave a wrong statement to the media on the road rage case in which a youth was done to death by miscreants.
Close on the heels of this incident, Pant has defended his statement and said the deceased was allegedly killed by three to four persons following argument and not because the youth said he did not know Urdu.
