The police have registered a case against the two caregivers of the founder trustee of Ambedkar institutions Dr Shivalingaiah for alleged drug overdose.

According to sources, Dr Shivalingaiah, 92, is currently undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in the city.

A police complaint in this regard was filed by his son Dr Ravi Prakash. The complainant alleged that drug overdose had been given to Dr Shivalingaiah by two of his trusted care-takers who had been working for him for more than 15 years. The accused were identified as Dhanamani and Venkatesh Murthy.

The recent tests conducted on Shivalingaiah at the hospital have revealed high levels of aluminium hydroxide inside his body.

The normal level should be less than 10 micg/l, but during recent tests Shivalingaiah had 26.4 micg/l on March 4, and 33.7 micg/l on March 22, the complaint stated.

The police have also found a few blank papers with Shivalingaiah’s signature on it, sources said.

Sadashivanagar police have taken up a case under IPC section 307 and 328 against the accused. They said they do not want to comment until the investigations have been completed.
