Bengaluru: Mandya Lok Sabha MP Sumalatha Ambareesh who won the 2019 polls as an Independent, has disclosed that she will not take a hasty decision on the party she should join before the next polls as there is still a lot of time.

‘’Joining a new party is not a small issue. A suitable forum has to be created and a decision must be taken only after obtaining the opinion of one and all. It is not possible to take such a major decision all of a sudden,’’ she told reporters in Maddur taluk of Mandya district.

The two party choices she had were the Congress and BJP but she would have to find out first which party people of Mandya would like her to join. Based on this, she would take a decision.

According to Sumalatha, at present people are happy that she is an independent MP and has been working to improve the state of affairs in the district. No party has invited her to join them yet but there are leaders in Delhi who keep asking her whether she would join their party while attending the parliamentary session and she has replied that she will take a right decision at the right time.

Asked about son Abhishek Ambareesh joining politics, she said it was upto him to decide whether to be in films or take the plunge into politics, adding that she would not pressurise him in any manner. People of Doddarasinakere in Maddur taluk, the birthplace of late actor M.H. Ambareesh, want Abhishek to join politics. He will take a final decision in this regard and she would not interfere in any manner, the MP added.
