Bengaluru: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Monday announced a padayatra in Karnataka as a part of its push to make inroads into the state.

The announcement was made by NCP national president Sharad Pawar and the president of the party’s state unit Hari R. Pawar also inaugurated NCP state unit’s first office in Bansawadi.

“Recently, our party has taken a decision that let us try to work in Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad. But let me be frank. We have not done sufficient work in Karnataka. Now we have decided to select somebody who is a traditional established political figure, but is willing to work hard. So we decided that Mr Hari should take this responsibility,” he said.

Pawar added that NCP is one of five national parties as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the state.
