CM: No innocent arrested in Hubballi

Bengaluru/Sringeri: Denying allegations that innocent people had been arrested in connection with the Hubballi violence, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday categorically stated that no innocent person has been arrested and termed the Congress party allegation false.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, he said the attack on the Old Hubballi police station was a heinous crime. The police were rounding up miscreants based on CCTV footage that had captured the incident. Necessary action would be initiated based on the investigation, he said.

On the charge that he was being ‘soft’ on crucial issues, Bommai shot back; “Where have I been soft? Didn’t I take immediate steps on the Shivamogga and Hubballi violence? The Congress Party, being in the opposition, has to make such allegations against the ruling party”. Asked about the impending Cabinet rejig, he said so far, he had not received any call from the BJP high command to visit Delhi to attend the special meeting on the subject. His first priority was overall development of the state, the CM added.
