Decomposed body of woman found in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, Kamakshipalya police found a decomposed body of a woman at her house in Kaveripura on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Vanajakshi, 31, a resident of 13th cross Kaveripura. Sources said that she was employed at a local garment factory. Vanajakshi was married to Ashok, a cab driver, and the couple has three children, sources said. Ashok belonged to Kenchanahalli Village in Huliyurdurga near Tumakuru.

The incident came to light when Vanajakshi’s brother came to see her but sensed foul smell coming from the house on Wednesday night. He immediately alerted the police who broke the door open and found her body in a decomposed state.

Police investigations found that on April 10, Ashok returned home and found his wife talking to someone over the phone. On being asked, she had not responded to him properly, which enraged him. Following the incident the couple were often found arguing about the issue and Ashok had even tried to suffocate Vanajakshi to death twice earlier.

Due to these quarrels, the couple had sent their children to live with their grandfather in Kenchenahalli.

Last Sunday, the couple again got involved in an argument over the same issue which took a violent turn. Ashok strangulated his wife with his hands until she succumbed. The accused then locked his house and fled, police said.

When the phone calls made by Vanajakshi’s brother went unanswered since Sunday, he himself came to check on her on Wednesday, but found her house locked. Police inspected the spot and shifted the body to Victoria hospital in the city.

Accused arrested: Police were suspicious about Ashok’s sudden disappearance. An inquiry was conducted about his character in the neighbourhood and his relatives. The police then tracked him through his mobile phone and arrested him.
