DK Shivkumar demands probe into BJP role in Hubballi violence

Bengaluru: Holding the BJP responsible for the Hubballi violence, KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar demanded a probe into the role of the ruling party after an objectionable post in social media created a furore.
“While we are trying to restore peace in Hubballi, the BJP is blaming us for the violence. The real reason for the violence is the instigation by the BJP. The ruling party is squarely responsible for the untoward incident”, Shivakumar told media persons on Friday. He said the local police sought the help of Congress leaders after some miscreants attempted to take the law into the hands. In the process, District Congress President Altaf Hallur was hit by stones and fractured his hand. There is no point in blaming other parties to cover up one’s own mistakes, the Congress leader remarked adding that they are only trying to restore peace in the commercial capital of North Karnataka.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar disclosed that cases had been registered against six Congress leaders including himself adding that they were targeted for protesting for the rights of farmers. “People will judge us in the end. The complaint mentions 20-1-2021 as the date and Freedom Park as the location. There weren 10,000 people protesting at the site but they chose to file cases against only six people. I am the first accused followed by Salim Ahmed, Ishwar Khandre, Manjunath, Shafiullah and Basangouda Badarli,” he said. “We respect the law and we sought bail. They been targeting us with cases,’’ he said.
