Bengaluru: Preparations have begun to build the two metro stations at Kempegowda Inter national Airport, which will be part of BMRCL’s much-awaited airport metro line project.
“We have just commenced the work and completed the soil testing. So going forward, the place will be covered with barricades from Monday. We have submitted the report to the BIAL authorities and they will take care of the traffic diversion based on their needs,” said Nataraj, Additional Chief Engineer - Airport Line, BMRCL.
The corporation will be using 97,000 sq.m of land which was initially acquired by the NHAI for the High Speed Rail Link. Later this land was handed over to the BMRCL. The metro line on this stretch will be built parallel to the expressway. The corporation and government have set 2024 as the deadline for the completion of this project.
“The BIAL will build a metro line for a stretch of 2 km within its campus that will include construction of two elevated metro stations as per the design approved by the BMRCL. We are confident that this line will be completed by December 2024 and opened for the public,” Nataraj said.
The airport line project will be 38 kilometres long from Central Silk Board to KIA and will be executed in three packages. Hyderabad-based NCC Ltd will be executing all the packages.
It will be an elevated line throughout and BMRCL had recently completed land acquisition for the project.
The proposed line will run parallel to the Outer Ring Road and pass through K.R. Puram, Nagawara and Hebbal.
It will be BMRCL’s Blue Line corridor - Central Silk Board to K.R. Puram (Phase 2A) and K.R. Puram to KIA (Phase 2B).
This corridor will have 17 stations including Benniganahalli, Horamavu, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, HBR Layout, Nagawara, Veeranna Palya, Kempapura, Hebbal, Kodigehalli, Jakkur Cross, Yelahanka, Bagalur Cross, Bettahalarusu, Doddajala, Airport City and KIA Terminal.
When News Trail contacted BIAL officials, they said that based on the requirement, the traffic diversion will be taken.
