This school tap gives muddy water

Bengaluru: It seems there is no end to the woes of students of Karnataka Public School and Government First Grade College situated at Domlur. All these years, the students and the teachers used to struggle a lot due to lack of basic infrastructure, like any other government school.
But, of late, some of these problems were fixed with the intervention of a few philanthropists, including Domlur Senior Citizens’ Charitable Trust, which not only constructed a toilet block, but also supplied other infrastructure.
The latest problem is that students and the teachers are not able to use toilets. It is not that toilets are not in bad or poor condition. There is no guarantee of water at the toilets. If there is water, the students and teachers are not sure whether it can be used for washing and cleaning.
“For the last few weeks, we found water muddy. Many students hesitate to use the toilets because of muddy water,” said a teacher on the condition of anonymity.
The other problem is that teachers hesitate to complain to the higher authorities and elected representatives about muddy water. They said they have to depend on a borewell that was dug up many years ago for water. “The more we use the borewell, the muddier the water. I am of the opinion the depth of the borewell is not more than 300 ft. The need of the hour is to have one more borewell,’’ said a teacher. Coming down heavily on school management and education officers for neglecting the school, Shivakumar V, a social activist, demanded the authorities concerned to fix the muddy water issue before the school reopens.
It is quite surprising to see school development committee (SDC) members declining to comment on muddy water issues. “The high school building is also not in a good condition. The problem here is we have to depend on elected representatives for everything,” said a SDC member.
