Karnataka women’s disastrous tourney ends
By NT Correspondent
Karnataka ended their campaign on a losing note as they went down by six wickets to Delhi in the Senior Women’s T20 League at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium ground on Sunday.
Asked to bat first, Karnataka were bundled out for a mere 57 runs in 17.4 overs. None of the top six in the batting order got into double figures as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Prathyusha added 19 runs with Akanksha for the 8th wicket and another 13 with Chandu V as Delhi bowlers Soni Yadav (3/7), Riti Tomar (3/8) and Babita Negi (2/10) did all the damage.
The total was far too meagre to defend as Delhi made 60 for 4 in 15.1 overs to win by six wickets with Priya Punia (26) and Ayushi Soni (20) doing most of the scoring.
Akanksha Kohli bagged 2 wickets. The Veda Krishnamurthyled team won only one out of five group matches. In the Elite Group C Railways and Himachal Pradesh moved to the next round, while Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Chandigarh were knocked out of the tournament. Karnataka women have to do some serious introspecting after the humiliating losses, in which mostly their batters let them down.
Brief scores: Karnataka State Cricket Association: 57 all out in 17.4 overs [Prathyusha C 27, Akanksha Kohli 10, Soni Yadav 3/7, Riti Tomar 3/8, Babita Negi 2/10] lost to Delhi & District Cricket Association: 60 for 4 in 15.1 overs [Priya Punia 26*, Ayushi Soni 20, Akanksha Kohli 2/10] by 6 wickets.
