Bengaluru: Mystery shrouds the death of four stray puppies near Gopalan Mall in RR Nagar area on Thursday. The puppies, said to be around 20-days-old, have sustained injuries in their throat.
It is suspected that someone has killed them, or they were attacked by other stray dogs. An animal activist dialled 112 and informed the police control room about the mysterious deaths. Animal welfare organisations in the city are looking into the issue.
Sundeep Aneja, the animal activist who informed the police, told News Trail that he got to know about the incident from one of his friends. “As I am an animal activist, my number is familiar in such groups. On Thursday, I received a call from one of my friends. I stay in Bommanahalli and rushed to the spot and saw the four healthy stray puppies lying dead. The initial suspicion was that they could have been murdered. The possibility of other dogs killing the puppies also cannot be ruled out,” he said.
Aneja and his friends tried getting a post-mortem done for the dead puppies. As no FIR was registered, the authorities concerned refused to carry out post-mortem.
“Even without a FIR, the post-mortem could have been done. But in this case, it was denied. Since the police have been informed, the puppies were buried. Unfortunately there are no CCTVs in the vicinity which could have cleared the suspicion,” Aneja added.
After the pictures of the dead puppies went online, netizens strongly condemned the incident. Kannada movies actress Amulya and her husband who stay in RR Nagar also demanded strict action. They also tweeted the pictures to alert the authorities.
