Bengaluru: City railway police investigating the murder of a 20-yearold have made several arrests relating to the case, sources from the police said.
It was revealed that the police, which had launched special probes in the case, are currently interrogating several suspects.
The victim, Bharath, was stabbed to death by a gang of 10 to 15 members near Kengeri railway station early Sunday. The incident came to light when the railway police, led by Superintendent of Police (Railways) Siri Gowri, began investigating a suicide case, noticed the gang dragging Bharath’s body towards the tracks.
As soon as they sensed the presence of the policemen, the accused fled the place, police said.
“The gang might have plotted to leave Bharath’s body on the railway tracks to make it look like a suicide. But timely intervention of the railway police foiled their plan,” Siri gowri told News Trail, after conducting a spot inspection on Sunday.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Bharath and his friends were returning to their houses after watching the Karaga procession in Kengeri around 12:45 am. The main accused’s scooter brushed past Bharath. He told the rider to be careful, but the person got offended and a heated argument ensued.
Bharath’s friends intervened and the accused left the place after threatening them that he would come back, police said. A few minutes later, the accused returned with a group of 10 to 15 men and attacked Bharath.
“Sources have informed that Bharath was taken by the gang near the Kengeri Railway Station and was brutally assaulted there,” an official from Kengeri police station said. The police also said that they have found more than 15 stab wounds on the body of the deceased.
This is the second incident that has taken place in this month. In a similar case, Chandru, a 22-year-old youth was stabbed to death near JJ Nagar police station limits on April 4, by three youths who were later arrested.
The incident took a communal turn after the Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra alleged that he was killed for not speaking Urdu. However, recently the CID investigation has confirmed that the murder has nothing to do with the difference in language.
