Reading out the budget, M.S. Shobha, chairperson, Standing Committee on Taxation, appeals and tax fixation said the corporation would appeal to citizens who have not cleared water bills for long, to pay only the principal amount and the interest amount would be kept in abeyance. There are 1,64,072 legal tap connections and as on March, 2022 the total outstanding amount is Rs 222 crore which includes Rs 146 crore principal amount and Rs 74 crore interest on non-payment of bills. Till the government takes a decision, the MCC would give a chance to water bill defaulters to clear the principal amount immediately.
