Smoke in Dharwad- bound train causes panic

Bengaluru: Passengers travelling in the Mysuru-Dharwad Express Train faced tense moments when thick smoke billowed from a reserved compartment in the moving train on Saturday night. However, there was no report of any casualty.

According to sources, the belt in the battery section started melting due to overheating and smoke started coming from it. Passengers who saw the smoke informed the duty officer. The train was stopped near Mandagere and the smoke was tackled with a fire extinguisher. Later, passengers travelled in the same train up to Dharwad but with only after two special checks were done at Hassan and Arasikere.
