Bengaluru: The number of people looking out for pets in Bengaluru saw a rise during the pandemic. However, many cases of abandonment of pets were also reported as lockdowns eased and families went back to their pre-pandemic routines.

In a heart-wrenching video circulated on social media, two people were seen abandoning a little puppy on the roadside. The CCTV footage dated April 30, 2022, shows a man and a woman on a motorcycle dropping off a puppy and riding away as the puppy tries to follow them. The incident reportedly took place in Jayanagar Housing Society layout near Turahalli in southern Bengaluru.

What makes the incident gruesome is the presence of at least five stray dogs in the vicinity. As soon as the motorcycle left the spot, the dogs surrounded the puppy. In a second, a fight broke out leading to the puppy getting mauled by the dogs. The case has been reportedly taken up by the Bengaluru Urban SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Aniruddha Ravindra, SPCA member and animal welfare activist from Uttarahalli told News Trail that the animal did not survive.

According to Anil, an Animal Welfare Officer with Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre (CARE), a few minutes after the couple left the spot, they returned and abandoned another puppy which is now with the resident whose CCTV footage was shared.
