Mysuru: Two persons were arrested on the charge of shouting ‘Kavalande is mini Pakistan’ after the mass prayer during the Ramadan celebrations at Kavalande village in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district. A video of the incident had gone viral.
This incident had sparked sharp reactions from right-wing organizations with activists staging a protest in Kavalande demanding stern action against the miscreants. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had directed the Mysuru district police to arrest the culprits following which Mysuru district Superintendent of Police R Chetan had camped in Kavalande Police Station to supervise the investigation.
Since only voices were heard during the 24 second video, the police had to contact many persons to identify the culprits. The accused have been identified as Fayaz Sharief and Hasan Ali Khan, both daily wagers. While one failed his ITI exam, the other has not completed the SSLC course.
The incident had disturbed peace and tranquility in the village where both communities have been living in harmony. The police have slapped several cases under IPC and CrPC against the accused.
