Mysuru: As many as 1,000 new electric vehicle charging stations will be established before June 30, Energy, Kannada and Culture Minister V Sunil Kumar has said.
Speaking after inaugurating a new charging station here on Saturday, he said charging stations will be set up in all district headquarters, tourism centres, state and national highways and at all government offices. A special campaign will be launched next month to increase the number of charging stations.
Sunil Kumar said the era of electric vehicles had begun and that the number of green vehicles must be increased. The use of electric vehicles reduces pollution. Fossil fuel causes a lot of pollution due to the emission of carbon dioxide, which affects human beings as well as the environment. People must start using electric vehicles and manufacturing companies must keep the price down to make them affordable for people to buy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of 500 gigabyte green energy by 2030 and in Karnataka this will be around 10 gigabyte. The state government has decided to give a subsidy to set up charging stations, he added.
