Acid attack: Accused still on the run

Bengaluru: Even after ten days of manhunt, the Bengaluru police have failed to nab Nagesh Babu, who had attacked a woman with acid on April 28 for spurning his marriage proposal.

While the 24-year-old victim continues to undergo treatment for her burn injuries, the police recorded her statements. She said that Nagesh (27) had been threatening her to accept his proposal even after she had declined it on many occasions. Later, one of the relatives of the victim informed Nagesh’s brother about his activities.

The next day around 8.30 am, Nagesh arrived near the victim’s office at Sunkadakatte. After finding her alone, he attacked her with acid and fled.

Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, said that Nagesh had procured a can containing nine litres of hydrochloric acid a week before attacking the woman. “The accused utilized a thick glass container and filled it with 1 litre of HCl acid which he later used in the crime. The investigative team of police procured the can which contained remaining acid from his house,” he said.

Seven police teams are working relentlessly to nab Nagesh, the top cop said.
