10 trees get uprooted in city

Bengaluru: It was a familiar tale as heavy rains lashed parts of greater Bengaluru causing at least 10 trees to fall as per Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The civic body confirmed that they had received 10 complaints of tree fall, adding that it is possible that the damage may have been even worse. BBBMP South Zone received four tree fall complaints. “We received four complaints including areas like Koramangala, BTM layout and Madiwala,” a BBMP official said. This was followed by Yelahanka zone which registered three tree fall incidents. Areas like Yelahanka New Town and Dasarahalli were affected. Trees also fell in RT Nagar and Malleswaram. BBMP officials added that they hadn’t received any complaints of waterlogging and damaged property as of 10:30 pm on Monday.

Cyclone Asani in the Bay of Bengal is set to make landfall on the east coast of India on Tuesday and it will cause light to moderate rains in Bengaluru as per India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Asani’ is very likely to move nearly northwestwards till May 10 night and reach West-central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining Odisha coast, it added.
