Bengaluru: A city-based plastic surgeon has been duped for Rs 11.66 lakh by a conman who promised her a job at a reputed hospital in Dubai.
A resident of Kengeri, Dr Swathi (name changed on request), has filed a complaint against a fraudster who had introduced himself as Karan Singh from West Bengal.
The complaint stated that the doctor was seeking a job as a consultant plastic surgeon at reputed hospitals in 2021 and had uploaded her resume for the same.
An executive from an alleged Kolkata-based job consultancy firm called her and offered to help her obtain a job at a reputed hospital in Dubai.
The executive initially asked her to register with the consultancy by paying an advance amount of Rs 5,000.
Later, the doctor was made to pay more amounts towards various charges including document verification fees, and exam fees and also to obtain a ‘no-objection certificate’ fee, through online transactions. The doctor stated that all the transactions took place between July and August last year.
However, after some more calls, the doctor was suspicious of the caller’s identity and tried to access the website of the consultancy firm. The doctor found the website inaccessible and later the caller too stopped responding to her calls.
A case of cheating under section 420 of IPC has been registered against the person and efforts are on to track and nab the accused, an officer from Kumbalgodu police station said.
