Omicron fears: Strict measures on borders

Mangaluru: With the new corona virus variant, Omicron triggering panic across the world, strict measures have been taken by the officials concerned in border areas of Dakshina Kannada district. The administration has also decided to allow entry of people coming from neighbouring Kerala and Maharashtra which have a higher number of cases only if they possess a RTPCR negative report.
As Dakshina Kannada district shares borders with Kerala at different places including Thalapady, police personnel have been deployed and they are engaged in checking passengers. The cops are demanding Corona negative reports from commuters who want to enter the district.
As on Saturday, the positivity rate in Dakshina Kannada district is 0.3 per cent. Among the 120 active cases of Corona in the district, there are 32 students who are from Kerala. Hence, the district administration has taken measures to test the Keralite students staying in hostels. Speaking to the media, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Dr K.V. Rajendra informed that checks at border areas will be increased from Monday.
