Under-construction portico at hospital collapses; 4 injured

Bengaluru: Four workers suffered injuries when an under-construction portico of St. Martha’s Hospital on Nrupathunga Road in Bengaluru collapsed on Tuesday.
The injured workers have been identified as Moiduddin, Chand Pasha, Rafiq and Basavaraj from Raichur in north Karnataka. As per the police, the condition of one of the injured is said to be very critical and he has been shifted to ICU.
According to sources, the portico collapsed around 6:30 am when the workers resumed the construction works for the day.
Three fire tenders and an earthmover were pressed into service to rescue the trapped workers. Fire and emergency service personnel shifted the injured workers to the hospital.
Halasuru Gate police have registered a case regarding the incident.
This is a third such construction site accident this month. Last week, a slab of a stormwater drain collapsed in the city, injuring six workers who fell 50 feet below.
Earlier this month, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium saw heavy damage to the roofing and structural frames after torrential rains lashed the city.
