Bengaluru: High Grounds police have arrested three people, including a history-sheeter, on charges of abducting and robbing a businessman from Mandya district of Rs 24 lakh.
Narayan, 55, a resident of Laggere in the city and a history-sheeter of Mahalakshmi Layout police station, is the prime accused in the case. Interestingly, the police also found that the prime accused has actually acted in around 40 Kannada movies and series.
Following the arrest, Rs 15 lakh in cash, an SUV and other valuables have been recovered from the accused, police said on Thursday.
The other accused were identified as Umesh, 37, a native of Sogalapalya; and Nutana, 37, a resident of Subramanyapura.
The incident occurred on April 20 when the Mandya-based businessman was returning from Bengaluru around 11:30 pm.
“The three accused, who were following him in their car, were aware that the person was carrying cash along with him,” police said.
The trio blocked the person’s car and forced him out, accusing him that he had damaged their car while driving in the city. The accused then abducted the person in his own car and drove him to Ramanagar, Kanakapura, Harohalli, and Mandya before assaulting him with a hockey stick and threatening to murder him with a knife.
The accused allegedly stole Rs 24.5 lakh in cash and six bank cheques from the person before fleeing the spot. A complaint had been filed regarding the incident at High Grounds police station in the city.
The city police carried out a probe and tracked the trio based on a tip-off received from sources. The police said the accused Narayan was found to be involved in eight criminal cases including a murder case.
Currently, the police are interrogating the accused to recover the remaining amount. Further investigation in the case is on, police said.
