NZ fight back on 17-wicket day
England were restricted to 116 for seven against New Zealand, trailing the visitors by 16 runs at Stumps on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test at Lord’s.
Kyle Jamieson haulted England’s bright start, dismissing Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope moments after Tea.
Colin de Grandhomme and Tim Southee then struck in quick succession to remove Joe Root and Alex Lees, respectively.
Southee then dismissed England skipper Ben Stokes before Trent Boult struck twice in an over to dismiss Jonny Bairstow and Matthew Potts.
Earlier, James Anderson and debutant Matthew Potts took four-wicketwicket each as England bowled out New Zealand for 132
For New Zealand, Colin de Grandhomme top-scored with a fighting 42 not out. Anderson struck twice early to dismiss New Zealand openers Tom Latham and Will Young.
Broad also joined the party, removing Devon Conway. Potts then registered his first Test wicket after removing New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson.
He then dismissed Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell, respectively, to announce his arrival in style.
