No rain during Yoga Day celebrations in Mysuru? IMD disowns claim

In yet another case of fake news on social media, a tweet on weather forecast for Thursday turned out to be false when News Trail verified it.
The tweet stated that the India Meteorological Department predicted there would be no rain on June 21 in Bengaluru and Mysuru according to its ‘latest’ forecast. This is in reference to International Yoga Day to be observed on June 21. PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to lead the celebrations in Mysuru.
However, the head of IMD’s Bengaluru station, Dr Geeta Agnihotri told News Trail that the department does not issue forecasts beyond seven days in advance.
“Our forecasts are reliable within a period of five days. We will be able to forecast the weather for June 21 and 22 only on June 17,” she said, and added that the information regarding rain forecast for June 21 doing the rounds “is wrong”.
